The STATE of this State of Nevada

For those who are saying we are not in a recession they are blind to the realities in front of us. Nevada is a perfect example. The economy has an immediate and direct affect on the state. Las Vegas in particular has been hit hard. The weekdays here look like a ghost town, travel from Southern CA is down %50 percent from last year (Gas prices taking the lead in that one). Foreclosures in the city are up %48 from the same time last year.

People are losing their homes, renters are losing their place to live. Unemployment it higher as casinos layoff thousands each month. And workers who are still there are forced to pick up double duty. Tips are way down as the people who come here are staying for a shorter time, looking for more bargains and spending much less than they used to.

The big casino companies are still making profits, just not as much as they used to and they are still building more buildings as less and less money comes into the city. It is the little guys the regular workers that are being hit so hard here as gas is still up, food prices are up and they are just trying to hold onto their homes and cars. There has to be a turn around sometime soon but forecasts are not until 2010. Let's hope its sooner than that!
